The American Wigeon is a medium sized dabbling duck with a pale blue bill.  The male is brown overall with a distinctive white crown, a large green ear patch, and a buff colored breast and sides.  They migrate in the winter along the Atlantic coast and we find them in many of the freshwater ponds and shallow lakes in Falmouth. As dabbling ducks, they forage for stems and leafy parts of aquatic plants.  This Wigeon was seen at Perch Pond along Teaticket Path with a larger group of mixed ducks in the open water.
