CF2C8367-001The Green Heron is a small, solitary, and secretive bird of dense thicketed wetlands.  It is mostly found in inland wetlands and coastal marshes.  These herons are migratory birds arriving near the end of April for the breeding season, and departing towards the end of October.  They stand patiently on the edge of the shore, or in shallow water, to strike small fish and other aquatic prey.  The Green Heron has a blue gray back and wings, chestnut brown face and neck, yellow eyes, and yellowish legs and feet.  This Green Heron was recently seen in flight around Oyster Pond.
