August 11, 2023, Roseate Terns breed together with Common Terns on islands in Buzzards Bay. This tern is listed as an endangered species at both the state and federal level. The size of the local breeding population is rebounding due to significant conservation efforts involving habitat management and gull control measures. This young Roseate Tern chick is getting ready to make first flight. This tern was named for a light pinkish blush on its breast during breeding season.
