The American Coot is a medium-sized, plump, swimming bird. It is very dark overall with a short white bill and reddish brown eyes. They are typically found in open water on local ponds and in marshes. They dive from the water’s surface and feed largely on plant materials. This American Coot was recently seen with a large number of ducks on the Mill Pond in East Falmouth.
