The final waves of northbound migrating shorebirds are making their way back to their arctic breeding grounds.  This male Black-bellied Plover in full breeding plumage was observed this past weekend feeding on the sandflats at Black Beach in West Falmouth.  This distinctive shorebird has a whitish crown, a black face, chin, throat and black underparts along with checkered black and white upperparts.  They are known for a run and stop foraging style on the sandflats.
