A medium-sized hawk with short powerful wings, the secretive Cooper’s hawk is noted for its surprise and speed when capturing prey, primarily other birds. This juvenile Cooper’s hawk landed in a backyard tree on Shore Street and has become a more common visitor around backyard feeders. The juvenile has brown upperparts and pale underparts with dark brown streaking, along with yellowish eyes, yellow legs and toes.
