Double-crested cormorants are a very familiar sight in the waterways around Falmouth. This large, black, water bird is mostly a summer resident. Cormorants often fly in large V-shaped formations. They are most frequently seen swimming low in the water with their bill tilted slightly upward. Cormorants forage for fi sh by diving from the surface and using their feet for propulsion. This cormorant was observed taking off from a floating dock in Quissett Harbor.
