Shivericks Pond is home for some of the wintering ducks in Falmouth.  This time of year, it may be easy to see Ringed-neck Ducks, American Coots, Greater Scaup and perhaps a Great Blue Heron around the shoreline.  Ringed-neck Ducks are common medium-sized diving ducks found mostly on freshwater ponds on the Cape.  They breed in northern Canada and winter much farther south in freshwater and brackish ponds and waterways.  The female is grayish brown overall with a distinctive white eye ring.  The male has a black head, breast, and back with light gray sides and yellow eyes.  Both have a unique white band near the tip of the bill.
