The last of the migrating shorebirds are being seen along the beaches and in the marshes. This Short-billed Dowitcher was seen foraging along the shoreline on Washburn Island in East Falmouth. This plump shorebird is seen in larger numbers during the fall migration. They probe for food in a sewing machine feeding style. This Dowitcher has a long straight bill, gray brown upperparts, variable spotting on upper breast, streaked flanks, and greenish yellow legs.
