The wintering ducks have started to arrive in ponds and bays all over Falmouth.  The Surf Scoter migrates along the coast from northern Canada and is frequently seen in Falmouth waterways during the winter.  They constantly dive in shallow coastal waters for food.  The Surf Scoter is unmistakable with its all black body, white eyes, white patches on the neck and forehead, and a unique and multicolored bill.  The bill is red, orange, and white with yellow at the tip and a large black dot on either side.  This Surf Scoter was recently seen while diving in Quissett Harbor.
