Falmouth Harbor is a terrific location for observing wintering ducks. A variety of ducks seek shelter in the calm of the harbor and they are easy to watch from a close distance. Recently a group of ducks was diving around the head of the harbor. One of these was the Common Goldeneye which is a medium sized diving duck. The Goldeneye has a black back and mostly white body. The head is dark with an iridescent greenish black sheen, a round white cheek patch, and yellow eyes.
