A large flotilla of Greater Scaup was observed on Sunday afternoon near the docks of the Woods Hole Yacht Club. The Greater Scaup is part of a group known as diving ducks which dive for food deep underwater. These wintering ducks are found this time of year along the Falmouth coast. This female Greater Scaup is medium to dark brown overall, white belly, yellow eyes, and bold white patches at the base of the bill. It is always exciting to watch these ducks run along the water and then takeoff into flight!
