The Barn Swallow is a common breeding bird found in colonies all over Cape Cod. They tend to nest under the eaves of houses, under bridges, and inside all types of buildings such as barns and garages. Their nest is formed as a deep cup and made out of mud and grass; the nest is usually located in a spot well protected from wind and rain. The Barn Swallow has a shiny dark blue head and upperparts, chestnut colored forehead and throat, beige belly, and a deeply forked tail. This Barn Swallow was recently seen near a dock on Green Pond in East Falmouth.
