The dry rattling call of a Belted Kingfisher initially captured my attention on a recent early morning visit to Salt Pond in Falmouth.  The Kingfisher was hovering and diving into the calm, flat water many times in search of live fish.  This male Kingfisher is a likely winter resident and will remain perched around clear open water where prey is available.  The male is slate blue overall with a shaggy blue crest, a white collar and belly, and a long, thick bill.
