The Dark-eyed Junco is a medium-sized sparrow found in Falmouth during the winter months. They are typically found in brushy fields and around forest edges. Once the snow hits the ground, small flocks will move to be nearby backyard feeders. Juncos tend to avoid perching on feeders but instead scratch the ground for seeds that have dropped from the feeder. Juncos are slate gray overall with dark eyes and a white belly. This Junco was seen in a thicket at the Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary.
