This large and colorful sparrow usually stays very close to the ground.  They forage in the ground cover for insects and seeds. Towhees are typically found in dense thickets and woodland undergrowth.  This Eastern Towhee was spotted recently on Naushon Island while singing its beautiful call that sounds like “drink your tea!”  The male has a black hood and upperparts, ruby red eyes, rusty flanks sides and a white belly.
