Grasshopper Sparrows are known to be quite shy and secretive.  They are named for their insect like song which is a high, thin buzzing type sound.  The Grasshopper Sparrow is a grassland bird and can be found like this one in the dry fields at the Crane Wildlife Management Area.  The Grasshopper Sparrow has a large flat head, white eye ring, yellow lore, buff breast and sides, and mottled brown upperparts.
