The wintering ducks have returned to Falmouth and are now being seen in larger numbers. A large flotilla of mostly Greater Scaup ducks split time between Siders Pond behind town hall and Salt Pond. They belong to the group of local diving ducks such as mergansers and buffleheads that dive for their food underwater. The Greater Scaup has a rounded dark head with yellow eyes, dark breast and neck, light gray back, whitish sides, and a black-tipped blue bill.
