This Horned Grebe in Quissett Harbor has been one of many seen in the harbor during this past winter.  The grebes and other wintering ducks will start to head north in the weeks ahead.  In the winter season, this duck is gray and white overall with grayish upperparts, white cheeks and neck, gray cap, and beady red eyes.  They typically make shallow dives in search of small fish and aquatic invertebrates.  In flight, they have white patches on the trailing edges of their wings.
