Belted Kingfishers are usually found in the winter months near open water on lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers. Kingfishers typically have large heads, shaggy crests and long, strong bills. This Kingfisher at Mill Pond in East Falmouth dives from a perch over the water to catch small fish near the surface. The male has slate blue upperparts, a white belly and a white collar.
