CF2C9792-001The American Black Duck is a large dabbling duck, and is closely related to the Mallard. It is the darkest of the mallard type ducks. They tend to winter in saltwater marshes on Cape Cod. The Black Duck has a dark brownish body, white underwings, light brown head and neck, and bright red feet. The male has a greenish yellow bill. This Black Duck was recently seen lifting off in flight from open water in Salt Pond by Surf Drive.
