A number of Bald Eagle sightings in the Falmouth area have been reported over the past few weeks.  They are regularly seen this time of year around local ponds with open water. Bald Eagles visit the area as a result of extremely cold air funneling into New England. The eagles often work their way to coastal areas and nearby inland ponds in search of open water and access to fish and waterfowl.  This Bald Eagle was spotted late afternoon last Friday on the west side of Ashumet Pond as it hovered and tried to attack a group of wintering ducks in open water.
