Among the most colorful and attractive wintering ducks is the Common Goldeneye. They are seen with frequency along Surf Drive and along the eastern edge of Salt Pond. The Goldeneye is a medium-sized, compact, diving duck. The male has a stunning iridescent green head, bright golden yellow eyes, and a large white round spot on the cheek behind a black bill. It also has a dark back and white sides. This Goldeneye was seen last week in the northeast corner of Salt Pond in a small group of males and females.
