With spring migration starting to wind down, a few migrating ducks can still be seen on both inland and coastal waters. On a recent pond visit just north of Rt. 151, a loon was swimming in shallow waters. Even from a distance, this elegant Red-throated Loon was an unexpected surprise. The red-throated loon has a pale slim body, upward tilted head, and a thin upturned bill.
